BC Epilepsy Society to Benefit from Road Race

On Sunday, October 28th, the BC Epilepsy Society will be the sole benefiting charity for the 37th annual James Cunningham Seawall Race. We will receive financial benefit in two ways: through revenues generated by the race organizers, the Lions Gate Road Runners, and through pledges collected by racers and donated to our Society.

Even though the race is still four weeks away, we've already received our first donation from a participant. Pledge collecting runners can turn their donations in at the race to staff at the BC Epilepsy Society tent.

If you want more information about the race, please visit the event website.

Speaking of Epilepsy 2007 Launched This Week

On September 27th, we kicked off this year’s Speaking of Epilepsy Series with a talk by Dr. Michelle Demos on the subject of genetics and epilepsy.

Dr. Demos is a neurologist and a clinical geneticist at BC Children’s Hospital. Her research interest is in the area of genetics of epilepsy and involves studying the characteristics and genetic etiologies of familial infantile seizures in BC; and examining the role of chromosome abnormalities as a cause of epilepsy in some children. Please look for her lecture to be available on this website in streaming video in the next month. You'll find this and other lectures in the Publications & Resources section.

There will be four more presentations in the current lecture series. You are invited to join us at the Chan Auditorium, which is in the Education and Research Building just north of the Children’s Hospital at 4480 Oak Street at 28th Avenue, from 7 – 9pm. Cost of admission is free for members, or $10.00 for non-members.

Please call our office or email us for more information, and mark your calendars early for the next lecture, which will be on November 13th!

Welcome to Our Website!

The staff and board of the BC Epilepsy Society are proud to share our newly redesigned website! It contains all of our established resources, as well as some exciting new features (like this blog) all wrapped up in this good-looking, easy-to-navigate package.

We think of our website as a program all its own, and we can't underestimate its value as a link and a resource for our members and community all over the province. For these reasons, we hope you will take some time to explore the site and find what you're looking for, or what you did not know was available.

Please feel free to get in touch with us through phone, email, or the comments section right on this blog to let us know what you think, and what you'd like to see. If you're not already a member, please think about joining our society to stay in touch, receive our newsletter, and enjoy all the benefits of membership. In the meantime, keep an eye on this blog to read about new advances and issues in epilepsy, and share your thoughts in return. All in all, I think it's an exciting development!

Kathryn
