Each year, our Society awards $1,000 scholarships to British Columbians living with epilepsy who are entering, or are in post-secondary program. These scholarships can be applied towards tuition, on-campus housing, or any other academic expense. To be eligible, a student must be 16 years or older, a Canadian citizen or have landed immigrant status, under a physicians' care for epilepsy, and a current member of the BC Epilepsy Society. The scholarships are awarded on the basis of educational commitment, volunteer work, and other achievements or interests.
In 2010 we awarded eight $1000 scholarships to applicants throughout the province. This was more than double the number since the initiation of the scholarship program in 2003.
The application forms for the 2011 scholarships will be posted here in February of 2011. The deadline to apply will be May 31, 2011. All supporting letters and documents must be completed and received in order to be eligible for the scholarships.
Find out more about our 2010 scholarship recipients in the fall 2010 issue of our newsletter. We are proud to have supported these students, and look forward to contributing to the success of many more each year.
If you would like to help us fund scholarships for deserving students, please contact our Executive Director at laari@bcepilepsy.
