Epilepsy Education Day 2018 - A Rousing Day of Presentations and Audience Participation
BC Epilepsy Society Education Day 2018 was a resounding success in part to the presenters and experts involved, including:
- Dr. Cyrus Boelman
- Dr. Mary Connolly
- Dr. Chantelle Hrazdil
- Dr. Linda Huh
- Kelly Anderson, RN
- Jas Lachar, MSW
The day began with a touching and poignant story from our keynote speaker, Mike Scharf, a Fiscal Negotiator with the BC Ministry of Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation. The epilepsy experts then presented upon a wide variety of topics, including the basics of epilepsy, the ketogenic diet, family planning and pregnancy, new advancements in therapies and transitions to adulthood. To finish off the day, our Support Services Coordinator, Jas Lachar, demonstrated Seizure First Aid for the various types of seizures associated with epilepsy, which participants found incredibly practical and valuable.
Following their presentations, for the first time in Education Day history, the physicians led a panel discussion driven by questions from the audience. This led to riveting discussions and meaningful discourse about the information presented at the event. The information shared will undoubtedly raise epilepsy awareness and assist those present to be voices and advocates for epilepsy.
