Mini Dance Fest

Mini Dance Fest

To raise awareness of epilepsy, BC Epilepsy Society held a Mini Dance Fest, a public dance performance at the Telus World of Science and the Vancouver Art Gallery on August 10th, 2018. The dance performance consisted of multiple student dance groups performing a range of dance styles, from Bollywood to K-pop to rap. Furthermore, a BC Epilepsy Society information & education booth was on site to provide the public with information on epilepsy and our organization.

Four talented dance groups participated in the Mini Dance Fest: SFU Bollywood, SFU Giddha, Panwiberry and Hi-ST-e-rick (previously known as Black Core). Each group performed according to their own unique styles and chosen songs, which created an inclusive environment, allowing a wider audience to enjoy.

Our MC, Londyn Skinner, engaged the crowd and announced each group to audience applause. It was also an opportune time to present our new info board, created to assist in epilepsy education.

During the performance at the Vancouver Art Gallery, two special guests joined the show. The first guest was Joshua Wood, a Vancouver-based/signed recording artist, acoustic songwriter, and singer, who performed original songs for the audience. The second guest was Christine Jamieson, also known as Miss B.C. 2018. She concluded the event by sharing her inspiring personal story about her her struggles with epilepsy.

A major takeaway from the Mini Dance Fest is realizing how supportive and generous our community is. Our platform was significantly elevated when we collaborated with various sub-communities. The reach we can achieve collectively is endless.

Special thanks to  Joshua Wood, Tanya Van (aka Dollymomma), Tristan Rehwal, and Christine Jamieson and the student dance groups for their time, commitment and for raising awareness of epilepsy.
