Ready, Set, 2021, Go!

Ready, Set, 2021, Go!

It’s time to say Ready, Set, 2021, Go! As it is the New Year, we are excited to announce the launch of three new initiatives (which are weekly yoga classes, a book club and a new section on our website called Christine’s Corner) as well as one returning initiative (the second session of our Project UPLIFT program) to build community and bring people together. Please see below for more details:

Free Online Weekly Yoga Classes:

Did you know that the regular practice of yoga can reduce seizure frequency? We are excited to announce that we will be starting a free weekly online yoga class for beginners called the Mindful Movement taught by Dela Coutts. The 8-week class will happen over Zoom at 12 PM from January 13th to March 3rd. Stay tuned for more information on how to sign up for the classes!

Book Club:

We are excited to announce the launch of our new book club. The book that we will be reading is Daring Greatly by Brene Brown. If you haven’t heard of Brene Brown, you can check her out on TED Talks here. The book club will be facilitated by two BC Epilepsy Society staff and will launch on Friday January 22nd. For more information or to sign up, please email Sonia at sonia@bcepilepsy.com.

Christine’s Corner:

We are excited to announce that Christine’s Corner will soon be launching on our website with tips and tricks from Christine Jamieson, who is an Impact Speaker with the BC Epilepsy Society as well as Miss BC 2018/2019, Miss Canada 2019 and a person living with epilepsy. Keep an eye out for it to be launched on our website soon!

Second Session of the Project UPLIFT Program:

The second session of our 8-week Project UPLIFT program will begin on Wednesday February 28th, Time TBD. This program uses cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and mindfulness teachings to help people living with epilepsy better manage mental health, including depression, stress, and anxiety. The BC Epilepsy Society is proud to have the only trained Project UPLIFT facilitator in the entire province on its staff. This program is part of the Managing Epilepsy Well Network. For more information or to sign up, please email Sonia at sonia@bcepilepsy.com.

Speaking of the new year, people see it as a chance to set and achieve goals. If you made a new years resolution this year, download and print out this colouring page which shows all 365 days of the year. Simply set a goal for yourself and colour in each day that you are able to achieve that goal.

If you are wondering what type of goal to set for yourself, you can try things like:

  • Going on a walk every day
  • Doing a workout every day
  • Meditating or practicing mindfulness every day
  • Being kind to others every day

At the end of the year, you will have a beautiful and colourful mosaic to show all of your amazing accomplishments!

Happy 2021 Everyone!
